Currently I am modeling a PC simulation to develop a possible neural-net based control system. The intention is to develop a layered heierachy of capability allowing some learning capability.

I have always been interested in robotics, I created my own robot a few years ago, that was built and programmed on a Commodore 64. The most 'active' I have been over the last few years is that I have bought a few books and built some prototypes although I don't feel I have sufficient knowledge of how to start building my own robot. Most of my prototypes have been based on plans detailed in the Bonanza book of Robotic projects.
I am specifically interested in creating a robot and programming it \ controlling it via my PC.
I am currently an experienced Visual Basic developer (3 years commercial exp.) and am currently learning C \ C++ that I aim to apply to programming a robot. My aim is to build a robot that is controlled via a Visual Basic front end with a C \ C++ DLL that would communicate with the hardware.

Robots can be made with gyros for the "equillibrium balance", that the advanced computers are having a hard time achieving. The cameras mounted on the robot for taking approximately 25-60 pictures a second and then feeding those images into the computer so it can find the center of a an object, or get it's "bearings", is helped considerably, when you take away the need for the computer to calcualate "balance" as far as it's ability to stand up right. Do a search for "antigravity devices" and you will find there are devices that have magnetic bases, above the magentics base is a spinning gyroscopic magnet, the effect is that it levitates with balance approximately 6 to seven inches obove the base, considerable amount of disturbance is required for the magnet to fail in it's gyroscoping balance purpose. Once this technology is put into the center of the robot and amplified with electromagnets, the robot will have the ability to "levitate just enough for the weight of the robot to be held up, and if any changes in it's orientation are detected, simply turn up the juice going to that base, or turn up the juice going to the spinning magnet, and it will correct itself, now all you have to do is focus on movement going forward and backward, turning, and then moving in derivations of those directions, the gyro magnet will make sure you stay straight up. period.

Ever since having read William Gibson's "Neuromancer", "Count Zero", and "Mona
Lisa Overdrive", I have been keenly interested in cybernetics. As a child, I often dreamed of being part machine, which I suppose is the root of my obsession.
I personally have not done much by way of constructing robots, however I have been drawing diagrams and schematics of robots and wearable hardware that I intend to build fairly soon.
I would really like to know more about computer programming for control of robots, and especially about Artificial Intelligence, as I am hoping to go to a University class on Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science.
